Symptoms of Psoriasis

While this varies from one patient to another, the most common symptoms include dry and cracked skin that has the potential to bleed, scale spots on the skin, patchy rash, rashes that vary in different colors, soreness or burning, itching, and rashes that come and go in a cycle. Any of these can be from psoriasis. If you have a rash that is raised and raise, comes and go, or that is burning and sore, we advise you to get checked out by your dermatologist for possible psoriasis diagnosis.

What are the Psoriasis Types?

An autoimmune disorder that causes thick red skin and inflammation, psoriasis comes in many different types. Plaque psoriasis is the most common form and will affect 80-90% of those suffering with the condition, but there is also guttate, inverse, pustular, erythrodermic, nail, and sebopsoriasis.

Treatment of Psoriasis

Common treatment options of this condition include dry skin moisturizers, steroid creams, Vitamin A or D3 creams, medicated shampoo and lotion, and medication that can slow the production of skin cells. If these common treatments do not work, your dermatologist may use a different set of treatments such as light therapy, retinoids, PUVA (psoralen medication and UV light), immune therapies, or the medications methotrexate or cyclosporine.

There are some side effects to any medication or therapy, so having a discussion with your dermatologist can help you determine what option is right for you and your specific needs.
